Hi everyone, I have decided to try my paw at making a fursuit of my fursona. Now this isn't the first time I have made an animal costume. Back when I was a junior in high school and had a borderline unhealthy obsession with meerkats I made a full body meerkat costume for Halloween. At the time I was only vaguely aware of the furry fandom and didn't know anything about making fursuits. So we used all the wrong materials and techniques and it turned out looking great. Then just recently I was looking through my old year books, saw a picture of it and said "I thought that "thing" looked good?!" *Cringe*...
So that being said I have some experience, at least of what not to do. I have been watching a lot of tutorials on YouTube but if there are any makers reading this then I would appreciate any advice that you are willing to share and I plan to keep updating this thread as I progress. So far I have just molded the basic frame for the top of the head (see pictures). I will be filling in the open sides with additional sections of foam. To improve ventilation I got the idea to cut small holes into these sections. As long as the holes are not too big or close together I don't think that it will effect how the fur covers it. I plan to glue this piece to a balacava and begin adding the muzzle and facial features from there. Since I wear glasses I will also eventually place a zipper in the back of the head so I can put it on without having to remove my glasses. So the rest of you have an idea of what it is that I am trying to make I have included a reference sheet for my fursona, who is a long tailed weasel/ black footed ferret mix. I have some difficulty drawing weasels so be aware that the shape of the head will change somewhat between the ref sheet and the fursuit.
Questions, comments, and suggestions are all welcome.
Hello all. I'm sort of new to Tucson Arizona having lived in the Pittsburgh area most of my life. I'm a 27 y/o snep who lives the unique lifestyle of a roadie. I am specifically a lighting technician and pyrotechnician who has been touring for the past few years. In that time, I have had the privilege to travel to and explore about thirty two countries now. Funny enough, I just came back from Easter Island a couple of weeks ago after our show finished in Santiago Chile. My main interests revolve around exploring, hiking, traveling, national parks, and meteorology. I do hope to make new friends and meet new furs whenever I'm back in Arizona, and maybe someday actually get a fursuit. ^^
Now for the awkward goodbye. I'm only home in Arizona for another week. I leave for tour again this coming Sunday, and I won't likely be back home until next May. It is the nature of my career, but I will endeavor to make the effort to come out and say hello when I can. Best wishes for now.
P.S. I thoroughly hope some of you furs got to see Marvel Universe Live: Age of Heroes when it was in Phoenix this recent weekend. I helped to build that show ;)
Hi everyone, I just wanted to spread the word about a new app for furries called PawPads. it is a proximity chat tool that lets you find and talk to furries near you. It will likely be useful for meeting new furs or finding your friends at conventions. As a new app it still has a lot of development to go through (currently only available for andriod) but like any social app it will get better as more people sign up. I am considering using it myself and just wanted to let others know about it too.
